The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water

SpongeBob goes on a quest to discover a stolen recipe that takes him to our dimension, our world, where he tangles with a pirate.

Starring: Antonio Banderas, Eric Bauza
Runtime: 1 hour, 32 minutes

I watched this movie with my wife’s 5-year-old great grandson and was amazed at his ability to recall the characters, the plot and even the dialogue (note: he had seen the movie once before). This was my first encounter with SpongeBob. The movie is fast moving with a lot of unusual cartoon artwork. The surprising thing to me was the casual, subtle incorporation of adult references.

The beginning and end incorporate a pirate character and ship (which happens to have wheels and is an amphibian craft) that made me expect to see Johnny Depp at any moment. One of the climactic scenes has the sudden introduction of a porpoise as a God-like person who is straight out of the novels by Douglas Adams. Blerydacunos And the time travel in looking for the recipe of the sandwich takes place in a machine resembling the one famously used by Dr. Who. The movie manages to end well despite all the pitfalls along the way.

It seemed a little long, but my little friend enjoyed every second.
